Course Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMaster Class in Liver Disease The \u2018Master Class in Liver Disease\u2019 (MCLD) series was envisaged as a means to deliver high quality teaching in liver disease and transplantation. Since its \ufb01rst edition in 2011, it has quickly established itself as one of the most popular scienti\ufb01c meetings in the \ufb01eld in the Indian sub-continent. Each edition is planned as a single theme conference with participation of national & international experts. Previous editions have dealt with topics such as the pathological basis of liver disease, hepatobiliary tumours, paediatric liver diseases, and peri-operative care of the liver recipient. The 8th edition of the MCLD titled- \u2018\u201cLiver Diseases & Transplantation \u2013 Care of the Critically Ill\u201d (2018) at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai was a grand success with over 1200 delegates. Over the years MCLD has acquired a unique reputation of providing a practical approach to managing liver disease with emphasis on the multidisciplinary approach. Each year, hand-picked faculty continue to raise the standard of academic discussion and debate. Small wonder, that each edition has been attended by an increasing number of delegates.<\/p>\n

The upcoming edition is planned as a two-day meeting covering two di\ufb00erent yet important topics related to liver disease. The \ufb01rst day is dedicated to the study of metabolic liver disease in children and adults while the second day will focus on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and metabolic syndrome. This will be of interest to specialists involved in the care of liver patients of all ages.<\/p>\n

Metabolic liver disease constitutes the second commonest indication for liver transplantation in children. Diseases like Wilson\u2019s disease , hyperoxaluria and Criggler Najar syndrome all need specialized approaches and clinicians should have a clear idea of their management. The faculty includes some of world\u2019s foremost experts dealing with metabolic liver disease and the meeting will help provide a concise and practical way of managing these patients. India is fast becoming the epicentre of the metabolic syndrome pandemic. This and its liver equivalent \u2018Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis\u2019 is already overtaking viral hepatitis as a major indication for liver transplantation. These are high risk patients and need careful peri-transplant care.
