Simmons Transplant Institute in Dallas\/Fort Worth, TX boasts the largest group of women transplant surgeons at a single transplant program. These women also hold leadership positions within the diverse abdominal transplant surgery team.<\/p>\n

Johanna Bayer, MD, FACS was recently appointed surgical director of transplantation at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center \u2013 Fort Worth. She is the first female director of transplantation in the history of the Baylor Simmons Transplant Institute.<\/p>\n

Hoylan Fernandez, MD, MPH, FACS is a multi-organ abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon and the Chief of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center \u2013 Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

Although women now make up more than half of medical school graduates, surgery is still predominately male dominated. According to estimates, women make up only 10-15% of surgeons in the specialized field of transplant surgery.<\/p>\n
